This was a short film I worked on while attending the Art Institute of Portland. I was brought on by Brandon Deweese (producer/ director/ writer) as fight choreographer for this production.
We had about three months to choreograph and rehearse a scene that included weapons and magic special effects. I met with the director and actors to go over what the scene needed to look like, assess the skill level of the actors and determine what was doable with what we were working with. On set I was there to ensure the quality of the fight scene and ensure the safety of the actors involved.
I learned a lot about each person’s individual learning curve, some people pick things up really quick, and others just may not have an aptitude for certain things. So next time I need to adjust choreography according to current skill level and taking into account how fast people can pick it up.
